Oh Mother Nature
She's testing the McCloud's this week... 5.77 inches of rain in Bismarck and we learned a thing or two about our house. By all means the house isn't new nor is any new home scotch free of wetness with that much rain. Tuesday morning I thought just my flowers took the beating from Monday nights rain/hail storm. By Tuesday afternoon, we come to find out that my scrapbook room had water coming in. Some clever individuals gave us a Shop-Vac as a wedding gift, and it's been put to use time and time again! 10 gallons quickly added up to 220 gallons! Travis cut a hole in the wall to see what he could see, it wasn't good - he saw about 2 inches of water behind that. We tried to just tackle this mess on our own, the word was out that we had a problem. Grandma took the girls so they were out of the way and so the fan and vacuum didn't keep them up. Brad came over, a coworker of Travis', friend of ours and Karli's godfather. He was a HUGE help. Travis and Brad share their talents back and forth on many projects. So... we got Brad's sump pump going Tuesday night, not sure why we didn't have one in the hole. It wasn't overflowing ever in the 5+ years of living in the house. They then decided to cut the hole bigger in my room and come to find plywood as a filler, we're thinking it was a stairway or a door? Really don't know. Last night they installed a new sump pumped, drilled a hole for a hose to go outside (I've been told we have a really thick house). One of our daycare gals husband's came to help as well, never hurts to have an electrician at hand. :-) So that's in place and today they'll form up to pour in concrete from inside the house. And slowly we'll rework at my room again. The carpet is in Brad's garage drying. I had the scrapbook stuff up for the most part, curling pages and paper I wouldn't be surprised of from the dampness downstairs. But all-in-all we said it could have been worse. Thank you guys for your help. (I've been trying to post pictures and am having problems with it so check back again)
